Mahmoud is a middle-aged professor of Persian literature who is passionately concerned about Iran’s drought and environmental crises caused by unregulated growth and begins openly protesting the authority. He suddenly disappears. A week later he is found having gone through imprisonment, torture and assault. Traumatized by this experience, he finds comfort in the mystical world of 10th and 11th century Sufism and falls in love with one of the disciples of the great Sufi, Abusa'id Abolkhayr.
